The Department of Finance is reviewing an inquiry to eliminate customs duties on certain electric accumulators
Home » The Department of Finance is reviewing an inquiry to eliminate customs duties on certain electric accumulators
Canadian Customs brokers became aware that the Department of Finance is working on a possibility of elimination of Customs duty on import of some electric accumulators, namely lithium-ion-nickel-cobalt-manganese, which are used in production of electric motorcycles. The accumulators are the primary source of power for these vehicles. At the moment the batteries attract a Customs duty rate of 7%. The Department has received a claim that these accumulators are not available for purchase in Canada from Canadian producers, and therefore removal of the tariff would result positively on the local and export markets of these goods. Input on the issue from the Customs broker's and importer's communities is encouraged by the Department.
